While the world adjusts to a new reality, one with increased safety and consideration for the most vulnerable in our population, we at the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir may be quiet but do not fear; we are not going anywhere.

You will recall that in March we made the decision to cancel our two Celtic Fest concerts. This decision weighed on us greatly not only due to the work we had put into preparing a fantastic performance for you, but also due to the disappointment and hassle we know it caused for our loyal patrons. We appreciate your understanding and support through that decision.

Due to the public health restrictions around large groups as well as to ensure the safety and health of our own VWMC members, we also ceased rehearsals in March. Meanwhile, the Board and our volunteers have not stopped their work. A number of projects are underway behind the scenes as we excitedly make plans for when we can get back up on our feet. We all long for the day when we can get back together to once again share the joy of music with each other and you. However, with the restrictions on large gatherings still in place until a vaccine is found, it appears it will be some months until this is possible.

In our 40 year history, this is one of the most challenging times for the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir. The loss of our spring concerts represented almost 10% of our revenue for the year. We also anticipate that we will be unable to move forward with our Remembrance Day and Christmas concerts. This will represent the loss of another 30% of our revenue. We receive little government funding and rely greatly on concert revenue to be able to continue to provide the quality entertainment the choir is known for.

To help us get through this time and ensure we are back on our feet as soon as we are able, we would be grateful if you would consider making a charitable donation to the choir. All donations can be easily processed through Canada Helps, or if you prefer to write a cheque it can be sent to the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir, attn Treasurer c/o 215 E 17th Ave, Vancouver, BC, Canada V5V 1A6 (please make out cheques to the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir). We have a recognition program for all our donors and details of it can be found on our website. All contributions, great or small, will help to ensure the VWMC is around for another 40 years.

Regardless of if you are able to donate or the amount you can contribute, in appreciation for the 40 years of support we have received from the Lower Mainland, we have decided that each month we will be releasing 2 songs free to download! We hope that enjoying the sounds of the VWMC in the comfort of your own home will uplift you during challenging times.

Stay safe and healthy!
