Our Story

The Beginning

In 1979, a small group of Welsh expatriates gathered in Vancouver with a simple dream: to preserve their musical heritage and share the rich tradition of Welsh male voice singing with their new community. What began as a handful of men missing the sounds of home has grown into something far greater–a vibrant community of approximately 60 men who share an unshakeable passion for music.

In the early years, the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir frequently toured across British Columbia, traveling by bus to Prince George, Cranbrook, and the Okanagan. Many card games were played, and stories shared, on those long bus trips. 1988 marked the first international tour to New Zealand and Australia, representing British Columbia at Expo 88! This was the first in a long series of overseas tours, across the UK and Russia, while still bringing the hearty tradition of a Welsh men’s chorus across Canadian soil.

The 2020 pandemic stopped touring, but the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir continues this spirit, bringing beautiful music, community, and connection to communities across the Lower Mainland.
