Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir Supporting Young Musicians

A key element of the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir’s Mission Statement is to give back to our community by supporting young musicians.  This Christmas season we have the opportunity to achieve this goal in three ways.  Firstly, we have once again invited the choirs from North Surrey, Argyle and Magee Secondary Schools to sing with us.  Secondly, we are presenting a fundraising concert in support of Saint James Music Academy. Thirdly, we will be joined by two soprano soloists to sing with us at six of our seven Christmas Concerts.

Magdelena How is a Masters of Music student in Opera at UBC.  A native of Vancouver, she has sung in many choirs and participated in musical theatre before entering UBC to study with Nancy Hermiston.  Her recent credits include Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (UBC Opera/European Music Academy), Anna Sørensen in Puts’ Silent Night (UBC Opera), and Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (UBC Opera in November, 2019).  She will be performing with us at our concerts on November 29th, 30th and December 6th.

Emma Verret is 17 years old and is currently in Grade 12 at Semiahmoo Secondary School.  She is a member of three ensembles of the acclaimed Crescent Choirs in White Rock and South Surrey.  In addition she plays baritone saxophone in Semiahmoo Secondary’s Senior Jazz Band.  A grade 9 student of The Royal Conservatory of Music Program, Emma plans to pursue studies in classical singing after high school.  Come to our concerts on December 7th, 10th and 15th to hear Emma sing!

Join us this Christmas Season for one or more of our “Christmas Traditions Around The World” concerts to support these fine young musicians!
